I am suprised that a person who has Hughes syndrome dont know what their blood group is. I think its better to be safe than sorry. I don't know much the blood tests cost.? we should know, incase of accident and ? the need for blood transfusion.

According to Wikipedia only 15% of the world's population are rh negative. In some areas of the world its less than 1% and up to 36% in Basque people. I find this very interesting, if you remove the 'i don't know' votes, so far 40% of the APS community are negative. Looks like you are on to something.

40% for Neg?? I thought it was showing 31%. Those "Don't knows" could all end up as positives and then it would swing the pendulum in the opposite direction. Until those "Don't Knows" are ascertained this Poll is uncertain.

I agree they could all be positive but I was eliminating them from the equation because they leave more questions than answers. I'll reword it though. 40% of the APS community that knows their blood type have rh negative blood.

It's likely the 22% unknown would be similar to the known, but at minimum we have 31% rh negative blood. Even at 30% it's still twice the world's average! Thats significant.

I asked my doctors practice what blood group I was and they did not know. They said I could be tested for it, but it would cost me as it is not a routine blood test that they carry out.

So the next time I was at St. Thomas' hospital I asked one of my specialists and he told me as they had it on record. I now carry that and all my other vital details (Meds and Ailments) on a special SOS necklace which I put on when I go out.

Maybe that is an idea for you all, just in case.

Do a poll on blood type...I've read that A blood is thickest and type O is thinnest...I always wondered if more people with APS were type A. My son is.

If you have ever had hospital treatment where blood tests were involved it will be on record. My records have a very large yellow warning sticker on the front saying Rhesus negative
